Ida Ghaley

Danish-Bhutanese designer

Born in Denmark and raised in Bhutan, I design in the space between two worlds.

My work reflects a lifelong dialogue between cultures — where Bhutanese craftsmanship meets Scandinavian minimalism.

I spent my early childhood in Gelephu and Thimphu, surrounded by my aunt and grandmother, who introduced me to the beauty of Bhutanese textiles and everyday sustainability. Since moving to Denmark, I've returned to Bhutan every year or every other year — maintaining a deep connection to the people, places, and traditions that continue to shape my work.

For me, design is not just about aesthetics. It's about meaning, balance, and respect — for culture, craft, and materials.
In Bhutan, clothes are made to last for decades, cared for and passed down through generations. That philosophy guides everything I create: giving new life to existing fabrics, reinterpreting tradition through modern silhouettes, and honoring the human hands behind each piece.

My goal is to create fashion that tells stories — pieces that connect the past and the present, the local and the global, the emotional and the functional.
